Deval Patrick has officially
announced his candidacy. He is the first to do so, although everyone pretty much knows Tom Reilly (MA Attorney General) will run.
Romney (R), the current governor, has ignored mass transit, allowing the T (MBTA) to lapse into a state of disrepair and corruption, he has vehemently opposed marriage equality, he has (for solely political reasons - he wants to be president) opposed somatic cell nuclear transfer, a key aspect to stem cell research (because the common name for it is "theraputic cloning" which sounds "bad" to people), and he has completely ignored his pledge to "clean up state government".
I'm sorry to say that the establishment favorite, Tom Reilly, isn't much better. He recently changed his position on gay marriage, he now supports it. But he also takes campaign contributions from the very companies he is trying to investigate, Bechtel Parsons-Brinkerhoff. Anyone who takes campaign contributions from Big Dig contractors is certainly suspicious.
Deval Patrick is a former Clinton administration offical, and a true progressive. There is no reason we should have either a Republican or a conservative Democrat in charge of the most progressive state in the nation. If you're interested in taking back the corner office, drop him a few dollars.
